**Ukraine’s President Meets EU Leader in Brussels**
On Thursday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. They discussed Ukraine’s progress towards joining the European Union (EU) and new financial aid.
Zelenskyy asked for two new negotiation clusters to be opened at the start of Poland’s EU presidency next year. He thanked von der Leyen for her efforts to keep the EU united on supporting Ukraine.
**EU Support for Ukraine**
Von der Leyen said that 2025 will be a crucial year for Ukraine and its partners. She promised €30 billion in financial support next year. The EU also approved an additional €18.1 billion to help Ukraine through a G7 loan initiative.
The leaders talked about using frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine. Zelenskyy thanked the EU for approving the new aid package, which is expected to arrive in January 2025.
**Border Dispute**
Meanwhile, three border checkpoints with Poland remain blocked by protesters. Over two thousand trucks are waiting in line. This will cause losses of nearly €331 million for Ukraine if imports are limited as they have been since mid-2021.
