Russia Issues Ultimatums, Not Seeking Dialogue
Ukraine’s Presidential Office is not ready to negotiate with Russia to end the war. Andrii Yermak, head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, says that the country needs more time to prepare.
The US election of Donald Trump has raised hopes for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. During his campaign, Trump promised to quickly bring an end to the war. However, it is unclear how he plans to pressure Russia into negotiations with Ukraine.
Ukraine is concerned that Trump may force them to give up some land in exchange for peace. This would be a difficult trade-off for Ukraine’s government.
Yermak also said that Ukraine needs more weapons and guarantees from its allies to protect itself from future Russian attacks. Without these, the country feels vulnerable and unable to negotiate from a position of strength.
