Zygimantas Pavinis, Vice-Speaker in the Lithuanian parliament, expressed his disappointment at the slowed progress of Georgia towards EU and NATO membership, attributing this to the current agenda of the “Georgian Dream“.
Zygimantas Pavlinis, Lithuanian Vice Speaker, reflected on Georgia’s once promising path towards Euro-Atlantic Integration. Pavilionis, referring to the country’s momentum following the “Rose Revolution,” regretted that European Union and NATO ambitions have been marginalized under the “Georgian Dream”.
“After the Rose Revolution’, Georgia was the champion for integration into NATO and EU. No one has the time to discuss it anymore. You must realize that this is the most important test for your country if you wish to join the European Union. Not only the European Council and the European Parliament but also each and every government and each and every Parliament and specific committees in the parliament must vote “yes”. You have at least eight parliaments here, and we represent 19 parliaments who have signed the joint statement.
Remember that the accession negotiations are an international conference. One veto can stop progress. When your “Georgian Dream”, tells you they will ensure membership, then they are lying,” Zygimantas Pavlinis said.
