EU Ambassador Criticized for Meeting with Georgian Minister
The chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of Lithuania’s parliament, Žygimantas Pavilionis, has criticized the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Herchinski. Pavilionis took to social media platform X to express his disapproval.
Pavilionis wrote: “Shame on you, Paweł Herczyński, you do not represent the European Union.” This comes after Herchinski met with Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Georgia.
The EU Ambassador met with the Georgian minister to discuss important aspects of relations between Georgia and the EU. Pavilionis is unhappy that this meeting occurred, feeling it undermines Lithuania’s interests.
At the meeting, Herchinski expressed concern about current events in Georgia. He emphasized the need for dialogue on key issues between parties involved.
Georgia’s side also voiced concerns during the meeting. They felt that political speculations surrounding elections were creating an artificial crisis similar to 2020. The Georgian authorities are committed to fulfilling their obligations to the EU and preparing for membership.
