Zigimantas Palionis, Vice-Speaker, Lithuanian Parliament responded to the explanation given by Shalva Papuashvili as to why the Speaker of Georgian Parliament will not meet the European Union Delegations from 8 country parliaments.
He said that he had been in Georgia a lot during the past three years and they couldn’t meet.
“It’s very Soviet, because I noticed this tendency 3-4 years ago. Even those who criticized Georgian government were no longer meeting. I’ve been here a lot in the last three years. They couldn’t meet. One small exception: the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia. “This is the Soviet way of doing things. If you criticize them, they don’t usually see you anymore,” said Pavillionis.
He noted that the Georgian government cannot pass the exam for joining the European Union.
Shalva Papuashvili is the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia. He has stated that he refused a meeting in Tbilisi with a group from the parliaments of several countries.
According to him, it is “impossible to present Europe as a peace project and at the same, sow chaos in a country in the name Europe”.
Papuashvili explains that, despite the fact the Georgian authorities are committed to promoting dialogue, with all relevant and concerned parties of the European Union they cannot positively respond to this intention to have meetings.
