**Ukraine’s President Wants Peace, But Sees No Desire for It in Russia**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to end the war through diplomatic means. In an interview with Suspilne on November 16, he said Ukraine must do everything possible to achieve this.
Zelensky believes Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want peace. Instead, he thinks Putin sees negotiations as a way to improve his relationship with Western countries that have isolated him since the start of the war. Zelensky said that for Putin, negotiating is just about “reintegrating himself” among those countries.
**No Trust in Negotiations**
Zelensky warned that a recent phone call between Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz could lead to unwanted consequences. He also said that he would not negotiate seriously with anyone until the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is inaugurated in January.
To negotiate, Zelensky wants Ukraine not to be alone with Russia. He believes the US must take a firm stance and see Russia as an aggressor that has violated international law.
**War Will End Faster Under Trump Administration**
Zelensky thinks the war will end faster if Donald Trump becomes President of the United States. However, he also expressed concerns about Ukraine’s current military situation.
**Challenges on the Frontlines**
Ukraine is struggling to contain Russian advances on the frontlines. Zelensky cited fatigue among fighters, slow brigade filling and equipping, and delayed weapon deliveries as some of the reasons for this challenge.
**More Mobilization Needed**
Zelensky said that Ukraine needs more mobilization to meet its current demands. He also mentioned that the country is expecting combined strikes throughout the winter but is in a “good position” with its air defense systems.
