**Biden Seeks Additional Aid for Ukraine**
US President Joe Biden is asking Congress to approve $24 billion in extra assistance to Ukraine. This aid will help restock US weapons and provide more support to Ukraine.
The request comes as the Biden administration tries to send as much aid to Ukraine as possible before a new president takes office in January. Donald Trump, who has been critical of military support for Ukraine, is set to become the next President.
**How the Aid Will Be Used**
About $16 billion will be used to restock US arsenals and the remaining $8 billion will go to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). The USAI is a program that helps supply arms to Ukraine through contracts with US defense companies.
**Congressional Approval Needed**
Two congressional sources have confirmed that Congress received the request on November 25. The White House hopes that Congress can include the aid in its efforts to avoid a government shutdown next month.
**Criticism from Republicans**
The request for additional funding has already faced criticism from some Republicans, who oppose Washington’s support for Ukraine. One Republican Senator said that Congress should not approve the aid as it would “further sabotage President Trump’s peace negotiations”.
