Injuries Reported at Rally in Tbilisi
A group called “Coalition for Change” was hurt during a rally on Rustaveli Avenue. The group’s press office says Nana Malashkhia‘s nose is broken and Elene Khoshtaria may have a broken arm.
The special forces followed one of the coalition members, Vano Tsereteli, to his office and hit him in the head with something. Another member, Ana Charkhalashvili, was also hurt and has an injured leg.
Rallies began on November 28 in Tbilisi after the Prime Minister said Georgia wouldn’t talk about joining the European Union until 2028. Two groups of protesters met in different parts of the city, but they eventually joined each other near the parliament building.
The situation between police and protesters got tense many times. Around 2:00 am, police started to break up the rally on Rustaveli Avenue after warning the demonstrators. The special forces used water jets, tear gas, and pepper spray against the protesters.
Many people were hurt during the protest, including journalists and police officers. It’s not clear how many people were injured.
