US Administrator’s Stance on Georgia Unclear
The new US administration has not yet made clear its stance on specific regions, including Georgia. This is according to Gia Volski, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Volski said that Georgian Dream, a political party in power, hopes that their views align with those of the newly elected US president on several key issues. These include corruption, programs that harm the US’s image, and conservative values. Volski believes this is good for avoiding war and chaos.
Some people think Joe Wilson, Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, supports Georgia. He recently made posts about the country on social media. In these posts, he mentioned potential consequences if Bidzina Ivanishvili, a Georgian politician, destroys democracy by December 29. Wilson also questioned why Ivanishvili signed an agreement with a sanctioned Chinese company to build the Anaklia deep-sea port.
