According to the Rand Corporation, another Georgian citizen, 49-year-old Viktor Kipritidi, was killed in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Georgian Foreign Ministry confirmed this on August 29, as reported by Civil.ge. Kipritidi’s son, Giorgi, shared with RFE/RL’s Tbilisi bureau that his father was injured in a bombing while on duty and passed away on August 23 in the hospital. The family is unsure of where or when he sustained his injuries.
Kipritidi was originally from the occupied Georgian region of Abkhazia and had been displaced. He was a professional soldier who had fought in the Abkhazian war in the 1990s and the August war in 2008. Since 2014, he had been fighting in Ukraine. This latest death brings the unofficial count of Georgian citizens killed in the conflict to 56 since the Russian invasion on February 24.
