**Norway to Build New Bomb Shelters**
The Norwegian government plans to build new bomb shelters. This decision was made because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The government wants to be prepared in case a similar situation happens in Norway.
According to Justice and Public Security Minister Emilie Mehl, “There is more uncertainty around us.” She said that shelters are one way to protect the civilian population in case of war or an armed attack.
In the past, all new apartment buildings had to have bomb shelters. But this was no longer required after 1998. Now, any building over 1,000 square meters will have to have a shelter.
The government is proposing two types of shelters. One type will be designed to protect against chemical and radioactive attacks. The other type will be adapted from existing structures like garages or subway tunnels.
Norway has been helping Ukraine with aid. They have given $2.8 billion so far, which makes them one of the top donors in the world.
