107 former and current Western diplomats, politicians and military leaders, as well as intel chiefs, have appealed for a coalition to be formed of NATO nations willing to increase support to Kyiv.
Over 100 former and current Western officials, including diplomats and politicians, military and Intelligence chiefs, and scholars, have written an open letter ahead of the US Presidential election. They urge European countries prepare for any US electoral outcome and avoid a Munich deal that would betray Ukraine’s interests.
Today, 5 November, Americans will go to the polls to vote for the next President. They can choose between Democrat Kamala and Republican Donald Trump. Harris is expected maintain Biden’s Ukraine-support, while Trump has promised to cut aid and favor Russia. Early reports suggested that experts believed Putin would reject peace talks regardless the outcome of the US elections, planning to continue offensives and pushing for Ukraine’s surrender.
Signatories include former CIA directors and NATO commanders as well as members of parliaments from several European countries. They warn that a possible Trump administration may try to “impose a Russian deal that would be detrimental” for Ukraine and European security. They also argue that a Harris administration could continue to follow a “policy based on red lines and stasis,” denying Ukraine’s capabilities needed to win the conflict.
