For the first time since a ceasefire was declared, Jordanian helicopters are bringing aid to Gaza. The helicopters flew over grey ruins and a barren landscape before landing.
Jordanian airforce men made sure that officials from the World Food Programme were there to receive the aid. A lone person in a bright jacket came forward. Two trucks waited nearby to take the aid to Khan Younis, a town just outside.
No formalities were needed. The aid was quickly unloaded and the helicopter took off again. There is a sense of urgency because 14 more helicopters are waiting behind.
The BBC was allowed to join this mission. It landed in an area held by Israel in southern Gaza. The surrounding land is empty, even though it’s close to the conflict zone.
**Aid Delivered**
The Jordanians used 16 helicopters for this operation on Tuesday. They brought medical supplies and baby formula that could spoil if they took too long to get there.
Dr Mohammad al-Momani, a spokesperson for the Jordanian Government, said the suffering in Gaza is “horrific” and “inhumane”. He said Jordan is joining other countries to help ease the pain.
