US Aids Ukraine with Final Package
The US government has announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth $24 billion. This is President Biden‘s last attempt to send help before leaving office.
President-elect Trump may cut military aid to Ukraine because he called earlier US aid “a waste of money.” The White House wants to spend this money quickly so it doesn’t go away.
The aid will be split into two parts: $8 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and $16 billion to replace US weapons. This is the second big package this year, following a $61 billion one in April.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said, “The threat to Ukraine remains. We should not leave our commitment to Ukraine or 50 other countries.”
Some Republican lawmakers are unhappy with the proposal. They say it’s not fair to spend taxpayer dollars on aid for Ukraine.
