Melanie Joly, Canadia’s FM, stated that Canada supports Ukraine’s long-range attacks within Russia and advocates lifting the restrictions on Western weapons use for such operations.
Melanie Joly, Canadian Foreign Minister, expressed her support for Ukraine’s use long-range weapons from the West against targets in Russia in Montreal, Ukrinform reported on 1 November.
Canada does not currently provide Ukraine with long range missiles. Ukraine must first get US approval before using ATACMS missiles on Russian soil. This could lead to similar permissions being granted by the UK and France to use Storm Shadow/Scalp. Germany may transfer its Taurus missiles and then lift restrictions on strikes inside Russia.
According to Ukrinform Joly stated that:
She said that she agreed with the use by Ukraine of long-range missiles on Russian targets, and stressed that this capability is necessary for Ukraine’s own defense.
The Foreign Minister revealed that he is also trying to convince other countries to adopt a similar stance regarding Ukraine’s capabilities.
Earlier, in a phone call with Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, urged him to intensify lobbying among partners to grant Ukraine permission to attack military targets within Russia.
According to reports, Canada authorized Ukraine in August to use military equipment supplied by Canada, including tanks, armored vehicles and other military vehicles, on Russian soil.
