**Opposition Parties Demand Syria to Revoke Recognition of Abkhazia’s Independence**
Four opposition parties in Georgia have sent a letter to the new Syrian government, asking them to withdraw their recognition of Abkhazia’s independence. This move was announced during a joint briefing by the opposition parties.
According to Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change”, the parties had already sent the letter to Syria’s new government. The parties say they are acting in the interests of their homeland and fulfilling their patriotic duty.
The Syrian government recognized Abkhazia’s independence in 2018, despite opposition from Russia. Now that the regime of President Assad has fallen, the Georgian opposition parties are using this opportunity to ask Syria to revoke its recognition of Abkhazia’s independence. The Georgian government remains silent on this issue.
