Opposition Protest in Tbilisi
A protest rally took place on Chavchavadze Avenue in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. The opposition had called for the rally, but a government official is not impressed.
Government MP Guram Macharashvili said that the opposition’s actions have no hope of success. He believes that people who voted for the opposition saw that they are not doing anything to help the country either in parliament or on the streets.
Macharashvili also claimed that the opposition only harms Georgia’s reputation abroad. He dismissed the protest rally, saying it cannot be taken seriously because more tents were set up than people who entered them. He said this is just a “carousel” and that no one is being fooled.
The protest started on November 17 at around 8pm when Chavchavadze Avenue was blocked by protesters led by Nika Gvaramia, the leader of a coalition. Students from various universities joined in and spent the night on the avenue.
