According to city authorities, Kyiv was the target of multiple Russian attack drones overnight on Sept. 30. The air raid sirens sounded at around 1 a.m. and the all clear was given at 6 a.m. During this time, air defenses engaged the drones and there were reports of explosions, anti-aircraft fire, and the sound of the UAVs flying overhead in at least one district of the city. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko warned residents to stay in shelters as several drones were spotted over and near the capital. However, there have been no reports of damage or casualties so far. One drone was found near a residential building in the Obolon district, according to Klitschko. Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, stated on Telegram that all Russian attack drones that threatened Kyiv were neutralized, with several waves attacking the city from different directions. The Ukrainian Air Force later reported that 73 Shahed-type drones were launched by Russian forces against cities across Ukraine, with 67 being intercepted. It is unclear how many of these drones specifically targeted Kyiv. This is not the first time that Russian drone attacks have occurred in Kyiv, as more than 15 drones were spotted near the capital on Sept. 26, with around 10 being downed by air defenses, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration.
