Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze has challenged Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to a public discussion.
The Prime Minister recently said he was open to discussing any issue with people who thought the government’s decisions were wrong. He invited anyone who disagreed with what they had been told to come and discuss it privately or publicly.
Janelidze is a former member of the ruling party “Georgian Dream”. In a statement, he said he accepted the Prime Minister’s challenge. He also pointed out that he was not part of any political party and was not seeking power.
The Prime Minister recently announced that his party would suspend its efforts to join the European Union until 2028. Janelidze has responded by saying he will contribute to making progress on this issue if it happens.
Janelidze is asking for a public discussion on the TV channel of the public broadcaster. He believes this will help clear up any misunderstandings about government decisions.
The Prime Minister thinks there is a problem in Georgia with people not understanding or listening to what is being said. Janelidze has challenged him to prove his sincerity by having a public discussion.
