Georgia’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili spoke out against his treatment by the current government. He said that one group is trying to punish him for things he was praised for, while another group wants to silence him.
Saakashvili stated during a remote hearing: “I will fight until Georgia is freed.” He believes that the issue of Georgian liberation is important today.
The former president mentioned a comment made by Donald Trump in 2011-2012. Trump said that Saakashvili was a “true role model” and a fighter against corruption, and that Georgia had been an economic reformer. He also joked that he would have competition if Saakashvili were to run for president.
Saakashvili believes that the current government is trying to silence him by setting up a “mock trial” for his conviction. He thinks it’s ridiculous that they are prosecuting him, given his accomplishments as president.
The former leader said: “I pity everyone who participates in this, but no one will escape responsibility.” He remains determined to fight until Georgia is free.
