Seoul could also consider sending a team to Ukraine and supplying Ukraine with weapons.
According to the NATO website, South Korean officials will inform NATO about North Korea’s deployments of troops in Russia during a meeting at a high level scheduled for 28th October. The meeting will be attended by the ambassadors of NATO’s Indo-Pacific Partners, including Australia and New Zealand.
South Korea’s intelligence had earlier reported that Pyongyang had sent 3,000 troops to Russia, with plans to deploy another 10,000 by December in order to support Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian military, the first DPRK units trained on Russia’s eastern training grounds have already arrived in combat zones, particularly Kursk Oblast.
According to Yonhap News the South Korean delegation will be led by First Deputy director Hong Jang-won and include senior military officials as well as diplomats. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte asked for this briefing in a phone call with President Yoon-Suk Yeol, on 21 October.
