MEPs Call for Action on Georgia’s Democracy
MEP Petras Auštrevičius said that things in Georgia will not get better on their own. He spoke at a press conference in the European Parliament, along with other MEPs and leaders of the ‘Coalition for Change‘.
Auštrevičius believes it is crucial to protect Georgia’s democracy and its pro-European course. He hopes that EU Ambassador Herczyński in Tbilisi will give more support to opposition forces and Georgia’s pro-European policies.
The MEP said that time alone will not solve the problems in Georgia. The government there is becoming more powerful, and restrictions on its own people are getting tighter. Auštrevičius believes that something must be done.
He also mentioned EU Commissioner Várhelyi and High Representative Kaja Kallas, saying they should take action. Auštrevičius discussed the European Commission’s 2025 work program, which includes Georgia. He stressed how important it is to protect this country‘s democracy and pro-European path.
