Georgia’s President Speaks Out on Upcoming Parliamentary Resolution
Georgia’s president, Salome Zurabishvili, has made a statement about the upcoming Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. According to her, this assembly may adopt a “strict resolution” on Georgia’s issue.
Zurabishvili spoke during a briefing today. She said that recent protests in Georgia have given the government’s opponents hope and show that the government’s policies are failing. The president believes that more people are becoming aware of the government’s actions and are joining the opposition movement.
New Laws to be Discussed at Parliamentary Assembly
In April, there will be a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The assembly will discuss the recent laws passed by Georgia’s government that aim to restrict non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society. Zurabishvili said that ways will be found to address these issues.
Release of Political Prisoners Expected
The president also mentioned that the issue of political prisoners will be at the forefront of discussions at the Parliamentary Assembly. She believes that a resolution will be passed in support of their release.
