Slovak PM Fights with Ukraine Over Gas Supplies
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico visited Russian President Putin recently. Fico wanted to make sure Slovakia gets enough gas from Russia.
Ukraine said it would stop allowing Russian gas to pass through its country. This is because of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Most other European countries have stopped using Russian gas since then.
Fico made a video on Facebook where he threatened to cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine if they don’t let Russian gas pass through. He said this is an expensive decision that will hurt Europe, not just Ukraine.
In November, Fico promised to help Ukraine with electricity in case of blackouts. He even said “We want Ukraine to get through the winter with dignity.” But now he’s trying to use cheaper Russian gas for Slovakia instead.
