**Mayor Arrested in Corruption Crackdown**
Milorad Grcic, the mayor of Belgrade suburb Obrenovac, was arrested on Wednesday. He is a senior member of Serbia’s ruling party, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Grcic was taken into custody by police investigating corruption at the national power company (EPS). He had been in charge of the company from 2012 to 2022.
The arrests were part of a wider operation launched after President Aleksandar Vucic promised to tackle corruption. A dozen people were arrested in total, including Grcic.
Grcic was removed as acting CEO of EPS in 2022 due to problems with the electricity supply system.
