The president of Georgia’s Russian- region, Aslan , has resigned from his position. This comes after days of mass protests against a proposed investment agreement with Russia.

Demonstrators stormed buildings in the regional capital city of Sukhum November 15. The protesters are against a law that would allow to buy property in Abkhazia. Abkhazia is internationally recognized as part of Georgia, but it has been under Russian control since 1992.

Protesters have been rallying outside the building, calling the proposed law one-sided and unfair. They have thrown eggs and bottles at police officers and used a car to breach the fence. The opposition leader, Levan Mykaa, has announced that protesters will occupy the building until the president resigns.
