On August 24, Ukraine will celebrate its 32nd Independence Day.
The Act of Independence of Ukraine was adopted by the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic on August 24, 1991. The council was led by Leonid Kravchuk, later the first president of independent Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky, today’s president of Ukraine, addressed the Ukrainians. In his video message, he told the citizens that Independence Day of Ukraine was a holiday of free people who are strong, dignified and equal. Zelensky thanked all those who care about Ukraine’s defence, including journalists, Ukrainian weapons manufacturers, and soldiers and their families.
“When we are proud of having sunk the enemy’s flagship cruiser ‘Moscow,’ and are happy that we hit the Crimean Bridge, we thank those who’s names we cannot mention today, but books and movies will be written about them in the future,” he said.
He said that together, Ukrainians are able to do this: when one person says “Glory for Ukraine!” the entire world responds “Glory for the heroes!”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia posted a tweet in connection with Independence Day of Ukraine, wishing the Ukrainian people “peace” and “prosperity”.
“We sincerely congratulate Ukraine for its Independence Day!” Georgia stands with Ukraine in solidarity and remains a loyal defender of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Georgia wishes the Ukrainians peace and prosperity. The message read: “Congratulations on Ukraine’s Independence Day!”
It is the second time that Ukraine is at War with Russia on Independence Day. On February 24, 2022, Russia began large-scale military operations in Ukraine.
