**Ukraine‘s Economy Minister Reacts to Trump’s Tariffs**
Ukraine’s economy is likely to feel the effects of US President Donald Trump‘s latest tariffs, but not critically so. This was the assessment of Ukraine’s economy minister Yuliia Svyrydenko on April 3.
The new tariffs will see a 10% duty on all countries, including Ukraine, with higher rates for major trade partners like the EU. Last year, Ukraine exported $874 million worth of goods to the US, and imported $3.4 billion from there.
**Ukraine’s Exports to the US**
Svyrydenko said that Ukrainian producers sell over 600 different categories of goods to the US. She also noted that Ukraine’s tariffs on American goods are quite low – for example, a 10% rate on cars and 0% on coal and oil.
“We now have a chance to agree on other conditions,” she added, saying that the measures will be felt most strongly by small producers.
**Other Countries Affected**
Some 60 countries or trading blocs were hit with additional duties higher than the 10% baseline. These include the EU (20%), China (34%), and Taiwan (32%). Russia, Belarus, and a handful of other countries were exempt from the list.
**Ukraine’s Steel Industry**
Steel production is a key sector of Ukraine’s economy, accounting for around $1 billion in foreign currency earnings each year. The new tariffs could affect this industry significantly.
