Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Demands Action Against Russia
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has called on the international community to take action against Russia. He made his comments at a meeting of the UN Security Council marking 1,000 days since Ukraine began resisting Russian aggression.
Sybiha said that existing laws are not enough to hold Russia accountable for its crimes in Ukraine. He emphasized that new mechanisms must be created to ensure justice is served.
Russia’s actions have been devastating for Ukraine, and Sybiha highlighted the country‘s efforts to highlight Moscow‘s violations of international law. This includes efforts to recognize Russia’s crimes as genocide under the Genocide Convention.
Sybiha also spoke out against crimes committed specifically against children in Ukraine. He said that at least 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly deported by Russian forces, which is a violation of international conventions protecting the rights of children.
The Foreign Minister rejected any compromises that would allow Russia to keep control over occupied territories. Instead, he called for real peace and not just peace at any cost.
