Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke at the ceremony, saying that despite heavy losses, the country was not defeated by the 1999 bombing. He stated that “after all the bombs and the puppets who later seized power,” Serbia has become a stronger nation.
**Patriarch Porfirije Reflects on Suffering**
The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirije, reflected on the country’s painful history of suffering. He emphasized the importance of loving one’s neighbor and enemy alike, as taught by Jesus Christ.
**Minute of Silence Held in Honor of Victims**
A minute of silence was held to honor the victims of the bombing, followed by a siren that was used during the 78 days of bombing.
**Leaders Praise Vucic’s Leadership**
The president of Bosnia and Herzegovina‘s Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, praised President Vucic for his leadership, saying he is capable of ensuring Serbia’s strength. Other leaders present at the ceremony included family members of the deceased, ministers from the caretaker government, and representatives from the Serbian military and police.
